Desktops, Laptops and Tablets, the world of computing and technological innovation

In the world of computing and technological innovation, there are a plethora of gadgets and digital devices, and it seems that there are new ones being issued daily. There are thousands of various types of smartphones, each offering more added benefits and feature. The newest trends have now moved from 3G into 4G. But what is 3G? The first generation of mobile technology was based on analogue signal, then we moved to digital signal 2G. Arround 2003 3G was introduced mainly to the business sector. 3G technology allows emails, and internet use on mobile devices, downloading and uploading of pictures and videos.

The difference between 3G and 4G mainly refers to the speed files are uploaded / downloaded to the mobile device.4G technology will allow the same features but at a much faster speed.

With all the technological acronyms, it can make the choice of buying an digital device much more difficult.

If your'e in the market for a mobile device, but you are not sure whether or not to opt for a laptop or a tablet. There are some thing to realise.

They can be regarded as completely different devices. Laptops function in much the same manner as desktop computers, but there are no separate tower cases for hard drives or processing units, and no separate keyboards or monitors. The biggest screens are limited to 17 to 19 inches and are designed to be portable, and can work for a limited time on battery. The heaviest models may not weigh more than 8kg, while desktop computers of the same capacity are not transportable, more cumbersome and can weigh more than 20kg. In the laptop, all functioning components such as the monitor and keyboard combined into one portable unit.

The tablet system is a new category that sits between the smartphone and the laptop computer. The capability of the tablets is much like that of upgraded smartphones. You can access the internet, read email, view and share photos and videos as you can do with smartphones, but you can do so comfortably with a much larger screen. Perhaps the biggest benefit of tablets over laptops, is that they are much more portable, as they can handle much of the same functions in a much smaller device.

There may be more versatility offered with tablets due to the vast variety of the apps or applications that can be used on the systems. The many apps that are produced, in some cases free or relatively inexpensive, and there are apps to handle almost every imaginable function.

The wireless devices are able to access the World-wide-web with a mechanism recognized as Wifi. So what is Wifi? Wifi, which is short for wireless fidelity allows digital devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or even digital cameras, to connect to the internet via a wireless access point. It is conceivable that any electronic device can be programmed to wirelessly connect to the web, so in the very near future, appliances, such as refrigerators and washing machines will connect to the web with Wifi.

When considering the purchase of wireless devices, ensure that it is 4G capable, which means that it supports the fourth generation of wireless standard connectivity. Standards are increasing as efficiencies in the rate of data transfer, costs and capability improve.

What is android? Smartphones and tablets are using two main systems: Android operating system which was designed by Google and is being widely adopted. Google android tablet has a large comunity of developers writing applications. The android tablet was best selling at the end of 2010 and by October 2011 there were more than 300,000 applications available.

The other option is the iOS5 on which the system iphone operates. This opertaing system has over 500,000 applications available and can only operate on Apple devices.

The exclusivity means that you will have to make a selection as to which is preferred, as there are not any cross functioning devices.
